NTA-Star TV Network, StarTimes, in a bid to fast-track the transition to digital television transmission in the country, has unveiled a new digital satellite television service known as StarSat.

Also unveiled with the StarSat were the company’s mobile devices, the P40 mobile smartphone and P80 hybrid smartphone/ tablet.
Addressing journalists at the unveiling ceremony in Abuja, the Managing Director, NTA-Star TV Enterprises, Mr. Maxwell Loko, said the new product would complement its current digital terrestrial television services.
This, according to him, will enhance Nigeria’s digital migration process.
He said, “As an organisation, NTA-Star TV Network is committed to ensuring that Nigerians and Africans at large have access to affordable digital television.
“By providing our customers with the best entertainment value and enhancing their experience through excellent service, we hope that StarSat will be a dominant broadcaster and entertainment provider on the African Continent.”
He also said, “We are committed to ensuring that StarSat offers a diverse range of rich content bearing in mind the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission’s requirement by ensuring that we give Nigerians access to some percentage of local content, while ensuring they are also provided with a diverse range of international content to give them a wholesome digital television experience.”
The StarSat, Loko said, would be offering Nigerians more television viewing channels, good sound quality as well as high picture quality that are characteristics of digital television.
“As Nigeria looks forward to 2015 deadline for the digital transition, the launch of StarSat is another momentum for the Nigerian television industry,” he said.
He added, “As this year marked our fourth year anniversary; more than ever before, we are committed to ensuring that our customers enjoy the best of digital television with the provision of high-quality content at an affordable price.
“As such, we will not relent in ensuring that we meet the demands of our customers by providing them with quality content and access to digital television as we launch StarSat to complement our DTT pay-tv services.”
